She was the first woman to be elected to statewide public office in the United States, helped draft the Oklahoma Constitution and was a fierce advocate for children, the disabled and less fortunate. Catherine Barnard, or "Saint Kate," as she was known, was an early trailblazer for human rights and equality in America and one of the most influential figures in Oklahoma history.
