Cyclone Jones
In the 1940s, a number of powerful and deadly tornadoes devastated Oklahoma communities without warning. Oklahoma State University electrical engineering professor Dr. Herbert Jones was determined to change that. As an expert in atmospheric electrical activity, he was an early pioneer in the field of tornado forecasting and became America's first civilian weather researcher and storm chaser. Dr. Jones also brought severe weather forecasting into the mainstream with features in major publications like Time Magazine and Newsweek, making him a national symbol for scientific storm chasing and earning him the nickname "Cyclone Jones." This week on LoyalTV, join us in Stillwater to find out how this advocate for early warning systems laid the foundation for modern tornado forecasting in Oklahoma and beyond.
