The Vornado Plane

Edmond
S1 Episode 92
3:32

Ralph K. Odor was born in 1895 on a farm in Arcadia, Oklahoma. He was, in fact, son of the family who built the iconic Round Barn still residing on historic Route 66. More importantly—as Oklahomans are no strangers to the sight of a tornado—Ralph saw this whirlwind of destruction as a way to improve the world of aviation. This is the story of Ralph Odor and the Vornado Plane. From his "vortex tornado" model he fashioned at an Edmond laundry to the flying craft it became at an OSU laboratory (as well as its eventual, more famous product creation), Odor's story is truly a whirlwind of fascination.
